"There was a flash of light as Jame's seraph blade arced through the smoke and plunged into the demon's middle. Black ichor sprayed as the demon shrieked in a high, chittering voice."
Chain of Gold is the first book in Cassandra Clare's latest Shadowhunter series, The Last Hours. If you are no stranger to the world of Shadowhunters you will love this book. And if you are a stranger I highly suggest you make yourself acquainted with them. They are wonderful. I own fourteen of them and love them all dearly.
In her latest series, Clare introduces us to James and Lucie Herondale, son of Will and Tessa. We also meet Cordelia Carstairs, the brave and fearless female that wields Cortona during the beginning of the twentieth century, and Matthew Fairchild, Jame's best friend and parabatai, and a few of their friends as they try to figure out why demons are suddenly attacking Shadowhunters after London has been quiet for over a decade. Just like Clare's previous books, the characters are different and unique and all very lovable. One of my favorite things about her writing style is her ability to create so many characters. Despite their being dozens throughout her books, they are all individuals.
I find that I struggle to describe Cassandra Clare's book, despite them being some of my very favorite books. If you love fantasy just read them. You'll be hooked. I promise. I recently said that to my teenage daughter and she devoured the first nine in a month.
My one complaint is that Magnus Bane wasn't in the book nearly enough. But I suppose Magnus can't take over them all.
"Ah, Magnus Bane," said Matthew. "My personal hero."
